Manila Water Foundation (MWF) is the social development arm of the Manila Water enterprise.
With a mandate to bring WASH for All Communities, MWF leverages on the Manila Water enterprise’s expertise in water and sanitation to reach out beyond the business’ concession area to serve waterless and toilet-less communities nationwide.
Its core advocacy is anchored on the UN Sustainable Development Goals : SDG 1 – No Poverty; SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation; SDG 14 – Life Below Water; and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
To make a meaningful impact, the Foundation focuses on an Integrated WASH (water access, sanitation and hygiene education) Program intended to improve the lives of marginalized communities in a holistic and sustainable way. To supplement this, there are Foundation’s Flagship and Special Programs.
Lingap builds hygiene and drinking facilities in public institutions; Ahon builds stand-alone water supply system or sanitation facility in low-income communities; and Health in Our Hands raises awareness among schools and communities on the importance of proper hygiene practices.
The MWF Prize for Engineering Excellence is a biennial award that honors Filipino engineers who made notable contributions in the areas of water, sanitation, environment, and sustainability for marginalized communities; Experts Bureau is a circle of the MWF Prize for Engineering Excellence awardees who are tapped as resource persons for WASH initiatives; Agapay immediately addresses the water supply and sanitation needs of communities and families affected by disasters and calamities; and WASH Volunteerism is a pool of volunteers who are mobilized for the Foundation's initiatives.
