Toyota to fund University of the Philippines’ marine protection projects
Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation (TMPF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UP MSI) for the construction of an Educational Exhibit and Training Center at UP Puerto Galera Biodiversity and Environmental Research and Outreach Center in Oriental Mindoro. TMPF committed to provide a total funding of Php 2.9 Million for the new training center and creation of modules about the protection and preservation of the Verde Island Passage. The World Conservation Union identified the Verde Island Passage as the “Center of the Center of Marine Shorefish Biodiversity” and a source of livelihood for two (2) million locals, in terms of coastal tourism, fisheries, and shipping route to the international ports of Batangas, Manila and Subic Bay. TMPF’s support to UP MSI is in line with the Global Toyota Environmental Challenge (TEC) 2050 in helping preserve and protect the environment. TMP vice chairman and TMPF president Dr. David Go (2nd from right) and UP president Atty. Danilo Concepcion led the MOU signing to mark the start of the project.
