BDO Foundation upgrades health facilities in Bohol, Ilocos Sur and Iloilo
As part of efforts to help improve the health and well-being of economically disadvantaged Filipinos, BDO Foundation recently rehabilitated rural health units in Bohol, Ilocos Sur and Iloilo.
Nagbukel, Ilocos Sur–Nagbukel in Ilocos Sur is considered by the Department of Health as a “Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area”. This fifth-class municipality is beset by a high incidence of poverty. Residents, many of whom live in hard-to-reach areas in the uplands, don’t have access to high-quality healthcare services. It is for these reasons that BDO Foundation selected the town as a beneficiary of its rural health units rehabilitation program.
“The decent and hardworking people of Nagbukel deserve the best patient care possible,” said Nagbukel municipal health officer Dr. Opalea Domingo. “Thank you, BDO Foundation, for your generosity and for adding our rural health unit to your long list of rehabilitated health centers nationwide. Thanks also to the BDO Ilocos Sur-Narvacan branch for being the bridge that connects us to the foundation. This gift will definitely contribute to the overall quality of life of everyone in the community.”
BDO Foundation improved Nagbukel Rural Health Unit’s layout, lobby and waiting areas, offices, consultation rooms, clinics and treatment rooms. The foundation also installed a children’s play area complete with books and toys. Further, BDO Foundation provided the health center new furniture and fixtures. With the project completed, health workers are now better equipped to provide high-quality healthcare services to the people.
Nagbukel Rural Health Unit is one of the latest successfully rehabilitated by BDO Foundation as part of on-going efforts to help improve healthcare services in the country in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal no. 3 to ensure healthy lives and promote the well-being of people of all ages. Recently, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank also completed the rehabilitation of Baclayon Rural Health Unit and Birthing Center in Bohol and Concepcion Municipal Health Office in Iloilo. More than 71,000 people from 54 barangays stand to benefit from these three projects.
The newly rehabilitated health facilities were turned over to local officials by BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito and BDO Foundation program director Rose Espinosa together with officers of BDO and BDO Network Bank branches.
