CLFI spearheads first-ever ALS Teachers’ Summit


In keeping up with Cebuana Lhuillier’s advocacy in education, Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation Inc. (CLFI) hosted the Alternative Learning School (ALS)  Teachers’ Summit on November 22-23, 2018 at the Cebuana Lhuillier Academy in Antipolo, Rizal. The first-of-its kind event caps off CLFI’s 2018 activities for the ALS program with 80 ALS teachers from DepEd Cebuana Lhuillier ALS community learning centers nationwide. CLFI’s Executive Director, Mr. Jonathan Batangan and the Department of Education’s Assistant Secretary for Public Service Affairs and Alternative Learning System, G.H. Ambat also graced the occasion.

Bannering the theme “Enhancing the 21st Century Skills of Alternative Learning System Teachers”, sessions during the the two-day summit were held and led by field experts to capacitate ALS teachers to acquire essential skills for revolutionizing their teaching approaches and strategies. Sessions in the Summit included mentoring, self-care and financial literacy.

Mr. Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier addressed the participants of the summit through a message delivered by Mr. Jonathan Batangan, CLFI Executive Director. In his message, Mr. Lhuillier commended the ALS teachers for their remarkable efforts and reminded them that the summit is a venue for enhancing their skills and ensure that their learners are included as  they take huge steps ahead of them and are given the opportunity to be among those honed as the country’s next generation of leaders.

In conjunction with the CLFI-led National Alternative Learning System Teachers’ Achievement Recognition (NALSTAR) awards held in September 6, 2018 at Baguio City , the regional winners were also awarded during the ALS summit.

DepEd’s Assec. Ambat, in her keynote message, underscored  that “Summits like these are important because it is a time for implementers to get together, share best practices and learn together.”

CLFI is one of the country’s leading proponents of alternative learning, providing out-of-school-youth and adult learners with the opportunity to complete high school education. In 2018, CLFI successfully established partnerships with 79 public schools nationwide where more 4,000 learners have already obtained their elementary and/or high school diplomas.
