Hon. Angelo T. Reyes is currently the Secretary of the Department of Energy. He has been in public service for 45 years and has held key positions in government and the military. He also served as Secretary to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of National Defence. Secretary Reyes was also Chairman of the National Disaster Coordinating Council, Chief of the National Anti-Kidnapping Task Force and of the National Anti-Smuggling Task Force, and a member of the Cabinet Oversight Committee for Anti-Smuggling and the ad hoc Study Group on the Mindanao Situation.

As a leader in the military, (ret.) Gen. Reyes started as a Team Leader in the Philippine Army Special Forces where he gained experience in addressing threats from the communist insurgency and Muslim secessionism. He also led a campaign to dismantle a network of rebel camps amidst ongoing peace talks and became instrumental in crafting the National Internal Security Plan, the framework in addressing insurgencies through poverty alleviation, delivery of basic services and empowerment of the local government. Gen. Reyes then became the Commanding General of the Philippine Army which led him to become the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Throughout his career, Secretary Reyes received various awards and decorations from both the military and civilian institutions. He is a recipient of the Philippine Legion of Honor, AFP Distinguished Service Star, Military Merit Medals and Anti-Dissidence Campaign Ribbons among many others. He was also awarded the Order of the White Elephant by the King of Thailand and the Order of Valor by the King of Malaysia.

Secretary Angelo Reyes is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy where he graduated in the Top 10 of Class 1966. He also topped the Trust Operations Management Course at the Ateneo Business School in 1987 and the Command and Staff Course at the AFP Command and General Staff College in 1993. He holds two masters degrees, one in Business Management from the Asian Institute of Management and the other in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at the Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He also took the Trust Operations Management Course at Northwestern University, Chicago and the Logistics Management Course at the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey, California.
