She was also appointed Vice-Chair of the Steering Committee of WETV, a global access television project of IDRC Canada. She is presently the vice-chairman of the Communications Committee of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines.

In 1988, Cheche founded and became the President of Probe Productions, Inc. during the newfound era of press freedom after the Marcos government. Together with Maria Ressa, Luchi Cruz Valdez and Angue Ramos, she produced The Probe Team, the country's first investigative newsmagazine for television. Probe Productions, Inc. would go on to produce other shows like The Good News, 5 and Up, Gameplan, i-Witness, Cheche Lazaro Presents and Art Is-Kool. In 2000 Probe Productions extended its quest to educate the mind and uplift the spirit of Filipinos with the launching of the Probe Media Foundation to serve as a training ground for young broadcast journalists and producers.

Her contributions to Philippine media in front of or behind the television camera have not gone without notice. She has received numerous prestigious awards such as the Gawad Plaridel of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (2007); Gawad Para sa Sining of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (2004) and the KBP Award for Best Female Public Affairs Host for The Probe Team (1993), i-Witness (2001), and Cheche Lazaro Presents (2001). As she continues to challenge the minds of the Filipinos, she highlights the tremendous responsibility of media as a medium and as broadcasters.

Cecilia L. Lazaro is a graduate of the University of the Philippines with a degree in Speech and Drama. She received her Master’s Degree in Radio-Television from the University of Michigan.
