Mrs. Solita Collas “Winnie” Monsod is a Filipino broadcaster, economist, professor and writer. Currently, she is a professor of economics at the School of Economics, University of the Philippines (UP) in Diliman. She was the convener of the Philippine Human Development Network, serving as Chair for 11 years. Mrs. Monsod served as minister of economic planning in the Philippine Government from 1986 to 1989. She was named Cabinet Secretary of the Year in 1988 and 1989.Mrs.Monsod has served on high-level committees such as the United Nations Committee for Development Planning, in the Advisory Board of the South Centre in Geneva, Switzerland, and is a Trustee in the Board of the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, DC. Mrs. Monsod is frequently asked to serve on the Advisory Board of the UNDP Human Development Report. Furthermore, she is a columnist for a major newspaper and a commentator for a television news program in the Philippines.

Mrs. Monsod graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree from the UP in 1959. She obtained a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1962 and became a Ph.D. Economics Candidate in 1963.
