BDO volunteers help families hit by Typhoon Ineng

BDO volunteers in Laoag City distributed relief goods to residents hit by Tropical Storm Ineng.

As part of disaster response efforts organized by BDO Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of BDO Unibank, volunteers extended a helping hand to people affected by Typhoon Ineng. Officers and staff from the BDO Laoag-Balintawak branch spent a weekend visiting evacuation sites and distributing relief packs containing food, rice and water to 600 calamity-stricken families.

Led by BDO Laoag-Balintawak branch head Marlane Manuel, the relief operation was supported by local government officials and concerned citizens. The corporate citizenship initiative is in line with the disaster response advocacy of BDO Foundation and its commitment to serve people affected by natural disasters or armed conflict. As a follow-up to its relief efforts, the foundation pursues long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction programs in affected communities.

Local government leaders placed Ilocos Norte under a state of calamity as Ineng, a severe tropical storm enhanced by the southwest monsoon, brought heavy rainfall, caused massive flooding and damaged infrastructure in the province. A state of calamity was also declared in Laoag as floodwaters submerged the city and displaced thousands of residents.
